Global Surf Travel Tips - #1 Morocco

First up on our Surf Travel Blog - #1 Morocco pt.1&2

The is nothing quite like the feeling of boarding a plane on a rainy cold blustery day in Dublin, Heading to Africa from a rainy cold blustery Dublin runway - Every surfers dream winter Trip! Landing off the plane to a warm heat, and the most welcoming hands of the Local people - Everything seems to move a bit slower, nothing is a problem, and the sea emersion is on!

After the most relaxed car rental you have ever done, you jump in to the opposite drivers seat, and set sail to the coast. A great first stop is a Legendary town named Tagazout. Famous for surfers since the 60's or 70's - Many Irish surfing legend has passed through and done their time here. It was a spot on the hippy trail, and it most certainly still has that vibe. The waves, seem to deliver consistently good waves all winter long. Local workers scour the coastline making sure the people are never short of a coffee, tea or a donught - They are great people, many of these people have spent many a day with Irish surfers over the generations, several even speak some Irish, Wild. The times are chilled everyone wearing a refreshing smile and a great attitude to life. Its always a pleasure and privilege to be there.

The first time we planned a mission to Morocco my good friend Charlie and I were chasing Safi - The mother of all right handers, and she did indeed deliver, We explored the whole coastline, for 10 days, sleeping on the beach when necessary, we got a brilliant taste for what Morocco had to offer - We made a pact to try and make the Morocco trip an annual tradition after this Trip...

We really scored that year and with ten days to enjoy - We could really get the juices out of the experience and soak in the culture. The next trips for myself have been short strike missions for several days - Often chasing a swell chart on a whim and a prayer, somehow Charlie always seems to find the time to spend a little longer - What a guy! January 2026 was no different to usual - A beautiful 'time out' of rushed daily life, Ample waves, weather and light, We are able to surf all day - I usually get away with a 2mm steemer - Up North in Safi, I would recommend some more neoprene - 4mm - Where the elements are less gentle.

This year we landed to a pumping swell, the waves were powerful, the wind was howling and the current was brutal at times -But there was still some diamonds in the rough, and the water time was stacked up Big Time! We travelled up and down the coast as usual surfing drinking tea, filming each other when we both weren't surfing and of course eating our fill of local tajines as they come our way of course - Here's a few clips I put together of the trip this year!

Hopefully Next year, as the locals say, inshallah (God Willing) - Thank you to Morocco and the Local People for such a wonderful experience as Always - And we always try to leave a little token from Ireland for the Locals - Keep an eye out for some local kiddos rocking our tees!
